I’m Jukka Nieminen, better known to everyone at ALM Partners as Juke. In late 2020, I had just graduated as an Information and Communications Technology Engineer, and while browsing job ads, I came across an opening for a part-time ICT support role at ALM Partners. I was looking for full-time work but decided to reach out anyway, and right from the first conversation with the recruiters, my wishes were heard. A couple of weeks and interviews later, I started at ALM Partners as a full-time ICT Support Specialist. From the beginning, I received strong support from the team and quickly learned the ropes. I was trusted with responsibility early on, and even more when I asked for it. It really felt like things just started clicking.

During my first year, I became very familiar with the company’s ways of working and had the chance to observe all the teams from an outside perspective, which I consider a great advantage. After that year, I had grown into a strong member of our ICT team and started getting hands-on experience with the cloud, including building, maintaining, and managing Azure Cloud systems as an ICT Specialist. I continued in the ICT team for just over another year, after which I felt the need to take the next step in my career.

I knew ICT wasn’t going to be my final destination. I shared these thoughts with HR and got a promise that we’d look into finding something new that matched both my skills and ambitions. Just a few weeks later, I was already talking with the development lead about how I could support product development teams with my ICT background and help make their infrastructure more efficient in our own product development.

After spending just under two and a half years in the ICT team, I joined one of our development teams as a DevOps Engineer. In this role, I’m responsible for maintaining our development environments and improving related processes by automating and optimizing them. The welcome into the team was genuinely warm and friendly. I already knew most of the new teammates quite well, as they had been my ”customers” back when I worked in ICT. My previous role helped me view things from an outside perspective and bring in ideas I had picked up from observing other teams. From an employee’s point of view, I think the support and opportunities that ALM Partners offers are a real advantage. I’m personally happy to be heading into my fourth year here, and I hope there are many more just as good still ahead.
